The place is called Russian Ridge. It’s in Silicon Valley, less than an hour drive from all the major IT giants’ offices. In the evening, hot air from the mainland meets cold and wet air above the ocean, generating multitude of clouds that the Sun sinks into.
This photo shoot I planned a couple of months in advance. Way before my next trip to California was due, I started researching flickr groups devoted to the northern California nature and found several beautiful shots made at that place. And I’ve been there already, so I knew that it was close and relatively easy to find. Then I had to identify approximate time of the shoot; that I did by looking at existing photographs’ EXIF dates because sunset time is not what you want here, it’s actually about 1-2 hours before that.
Long story short, I was lucky that day to find no overcast when I reached Russian Ridge and the photographs turned out great.
